Abstract

<p>The map shows the recently acquired part of a digital elevation model of the Uyghur capital Karabalgasun (740-840 CE). The city was founded shortly after 740 and was the center of the Uyghur empire until it's destruction by the invading Yenisey Kirgiz in 840. The site is subject of study by the Mongolian-German Orkhon-Expedition since 2007. In 2007, a first DEM was acquired by airborne Lasercanning (LIDAR), which covered about 40 km&sup2;.
